Appalachian State's Talented Young AnnouncerJoshua Campbell calls the action for multpliesCHARLOTTE, N.C. - Fans of Appalachian State women's athletics know the voice of Josh Campbell. He calls everything from basketball to softball to soccer. That eventually led to announcing his peers at Northeast & Mint Hill middle schools and sports writing at Butler High. Now Josh announces games for both tv and radio at Appalachian State. Josh doesn't let his youth or the fact that he has cerebral palsy hold him back. "As was the case at Georgia Southern where they put you up really high...I can't go up really high." Josh can't climb the stairs to the media booth at some of the stadiums where he calls the games, so he announces from the floor. Josh's goal: provide a vivid, but accurate call of the game and respect it. "I really enjoy the history of particularly football and basketball. Understanding the heritage of something and appreciating that." Josh says if he could be the play-by-play man for any team in any city, it would close to his Mint Hill home. "I think it would be really fun to call Carolina Panther games. You get to call games in the NFL every Sunday, I think that'd be pretty cool. And plus I'm from Charlotte so doing it for the hometown team would be neat." With drive and dedication fueling Josh's dreams, it's not if but when his voice will be heard by a national audience. |
