CHARLOTTE, N.C.--There was a celebration of African American history in Uptown over the weekend.

The 'America I Am: African American Imprint' exhibit at the Harvey B. Gantt Center will stick around until March.

The creator talked about the project to a packed house Friday night.  The exhibit pulls from more than 500 years of U.S. history, showing the impact African Americans have made.

One section in the exhibit lets visitors record their own life-stories.  Organizers say it could become the largest recorded oral history in the U.S.
