Animal Control Will Keep 34 Dogs Seized During Investigation
CHARLOTTE,NC--Animal Control will retain custody of 34 dogs after they were seized from a dog fighting facility.
Police say the dogs were taken from a home on Carelock Circle, where two men were arrested in suspicion of training the animals for the purpose of dog fighting and baiting.
Melvin Smith and Lefonze Williams were arrested on felony charges and were ordered to pay fines related to housing the animals since February 2013.
A judge ordered Animal Care & Control to retain ownership of the animals, teams from partnering animal welfare organizations will be helping to determine which dogs can be placed up for adoption and which ones can be transferred to rescue groups.
