Ban The Box Plan Moves Forward In Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Charlotte is moving forward with a plan to change the way ex-cons apply for city jobs.
City Council voted to send the 'Ban the Box' proposal to committee. The movement says applicants should not have to disclose their criminal history in the early application process.
It would effectively remove the check box that asks if an applicant has ever been convicted of a crime.
Activists say easier access to jobs could keep ex-cons from committing more crimes.
