CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Melissa Wilson is one of 11 homeowners in the South Charlotte
subdivision of Canterbury with a problem. "We've had lots of wildlife, this is our first run with beavers," she said.

The nocturnal rodents chopped wood, built a dam and moved into a community common area behind the homes. Since it's part of a FEMA Flood Zone, there are three jurisdictions involved.
Residents say it's been difficult to get help.

"If we were to get heavy rains, the creek is more apt to overflow and then come into the flood zone which very well could come close to our home," Wilson said.

"We've got a lot of concerns about the water damming up and potentially flooding our neighborhood and neighborhoods upstream," said Wilson's neighbor Tommy Williams. The Canterbury residents said two other neighborhoods are in the path of the eager beavers. Visitors they hope soon end up somewhere else. "They'll have to be taken to another place where they can't disturb someone else's backyard," Wilson said.

Storm Water Services is investigating the beaver problems. A spokesperson told Fox Charlotte that she will provide an update on Monday.
