UPDATE: The officer and woman are now out of the hospital.
Investigators tracked down two suspects wanted for a road rage incident to a home in a gated community on Lake Point dr.
Police say they were talking to the suspects when a woman came out and started struggling with the cops.
One of the sub guns fired and the bullet hit the concrete which caused shrapnel to hit officer R. Berry and Melissa Verner in their legs.
BELMONT, NC -- Authorities are investigating a home in the Reflection Pointe community after a Belmont officer and woman were shot on New Year's Eve. It happened just around 6:06 p.m. according to David James, interim police chief in Mount Holly. James said when officers arrived at 3260 Lake Pointe Drive they found people gathered in the garage area in the back of the home. A short while later a scuffle broke out and an officer and a female victim were both shot. The officer was shot in the calf and the woman in the lower extremities, according to James.
The officer and the woman were transported to Gaston Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting as standard protocol. James could not tell us who fired the shots.
