CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Crime is on the rise in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. New stats from CMPD show overall crime increased almost four percent in the first nine months of the year.
Violent crime jumped almost 13 percent. 40 people were killed, which is the same as this time last year. Robberies are up almost 16 percent.
Property crimes, thefts from vehicles, and rapes are also up. Cops showed us how quick and easy it is to break into a car.
It doesn't take long for a crook to spot valuables and go in for the kill. Many times the doors are unlocked making the job easier.
CMPD says there were more than 6,300 car break-ins reported in the first nine months of this year.
