C.M.S. Students Can Expect A New Surprise On First DayCHARLOTTE, N.C.--Henry Chang and Kevin Mun are hoping their first day of school on Monday will be a slam dunk. "A bit nervous and excited," said Chang. But, when they return to class on Monday, they'll be taught with a new way of learning. North Carolina has adopted a new curriculum for every grade in the state. The goal is to make more college and career ready. "I think anything that's going to prepare our children better for anything in life is only good," said Charlotte area parent Stephanie Barr. The Common Core Curriculum focuses on Math and English Language Arts. It's meant to make students stronger thinkiers and better problem solvers using more real life scenarios to integrate the subjects. "Those are good life skills. The earlier you start the better," Barr said. While Mun and Chang aren't excited about that, the new curriculum will mean more group work, and presentations. "Not really because I don't like homework or anything," Mun said. "I don't do exactly well with it but I'm looking forward to it," Chang said. Seventh grader Sophia Barr disagrees."I really like school, it's really fun," she said.
