MINT HILL, N.C. - The blinds were drawn, towels had been placed over the front door's sidelight windows and no one answered at Kristina Ngum's Mint Hill home.  The 43-year-old Myers Park High School teacher is not talking after turning herself in at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's office on Saturday.

She is charged with one count of sexual activity with a student by a teacher, a felony.  Detectives began their investigation after the alleged victim was arrested on an unrelated drug charge on Friday.  Police say the sexual activity happened at a location off campus and not on school property.

"I just can't believe something like that," says neighbor Jesse Ravenel.  He has lived next to the Ngum family for several years. He knows Kristina, her two young sons and her husband.  "I can't say one negative thing about the family," he says.

Ngum specializes in teaching children with disabilities.  She was hired by the district in March 2012.  In July 2011, she was arrested on another felony and a misdemeanor.  Those were false pretense (or fraud) and larceny, respectively.  The outcome of those charges is unclear.

In the meantime, her neighbor stands behind her.  "She's just as sweet as she could ever be when you see her.  She's (a) very sincere looking person.  You ask her for anything and she's always there to help ya out with anything," says Ravenel.

Ngum's bond was set at $2,500.  She bonded out the same night she turned herself in.  CMS says she will not be in contact with students before their meeting Monday morning.
