CHARLOTTE, N.C.--FOX Charlotte was at Providence High school as Ty Buttrey and his mom met with Principal Tracey Harrill.

CMS policy states students must participate in the graduation rehearsals to walk.

At Providence, it happened during the Major League Baseball draft, as Ty waited for a phone call from the league.

The school said Ty's parents assumed he would not participate in the ceremony.  CMS released a statement from Tracey Harrill.

It says, in part, "It is unfortunate that inaccurate information was reported in the media causing such negative attention on such a positive accomplishment.  We wish Ty well in his future endeavors.  We are proud of all he has accomplished."

Ty's baseball coach told FOX Charlotte it was unfortunate this situation was overshadowed.

Ty was picked by the Boston Red Sox in the draft's fourth round.
