Camping Out to Get New iPhoneCHARLOTTE, N.C.-- People were camping out in major cities around the world Thursday night hoping to be among the first to get Apple's new iPhone Friday. The iPhone 5 is supposed to weigh less than the older models and offer a larger screen. Some die hards have been sleeping on the street outside Apple's Fifth Avenue store in New York since last week. There was no camping out allowed here in Charlotte. Northlake Mall opened its doors at 6 a.m. so customers could start lining up outside the Apple Store. There will be extra security. South Park Mall opened at 8 a.m. but lines began at 6 a.m. near the Nordstrom escalator entrance. If you're among the record two million people who pre-ordered an iPhone 5, you'll be waiting on it for a while. Apple says it won't start shipping them for three to four weeks. Apple first said it would ship the phone within a week of Friday's release.
