Charlotte Based Vodka Company
Charlotte, NC - Tucked away in this little West Charlotte business park -- is Azure Skye Beverages. The man who started the brand, John Johnson says, "We're the best kept secret in the Charlotte area." Azure Skye makes Indigo Vodka, among other things. But Johnson's introduction to the Vodka business started when he created his perfume, Insatiable, which has vodka in it. He says, “The employees kept telling me, John this is really good, you really need to look at packaging this product." So he did, leaving the failing mortgage industry and turning a 20 year hobby into a business. Johnson says, "We touch every bottle. We make sure that we look at everything from the sanitation of cleaning our bottles to putting the labels on to make sure the quality is there." Azure Skye is a small operation. All of the products are made in a small room, right in the back of the business. While its a small enterprise, Johnson says his customer base and reputation are quickly growing. When it comes to Indigo Vodka, he's quick to point out, “In some of the reviews we've gotten from the World Spirit Contest to the 50 Best Flavored Vodka Contest, we are a top shelf premium product. The next step is to become an ultra premium product." Right now, you'll find Indigo Vodka in a number of ABC stores around the state. It's also sold in more than a half dozen states. But johnson says, “If the product is not in your store, please ask the store manager to start carrying the brand. That way Indigo Vodka is on a store shelf near you." It's just another taste of Charlotte's spirit being shared with people around the country.
