CHARLOTTE,NC--A non-profit group says renters should receive the same tax credits as homeowners in North Carolina.

The NC Housing Coalition says a person needs to earn double the minimum wage to afford a basic apartment in Charlotte.

The coalition suggests the feds step in and reform the mortgage interest tax saying it would give the national housing trust more money to build low income housing.

The trust has built 25,000 affordable homes over the last 25 years.
