KANSAS CITY, MO- Friends and family of Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher say there were red flags.

22 year-old Kasandra Perkins and 25 year-old Kansas City Chief linebacker Jovan Belcher were parents to three month old Zoey.

Pictures on Perkin's Facebook page show her as a proud mother. Others show the linebacker's softer side holding his baby girl.

According to friends, Perkins, studying to be a school teacher, moved to Kansas City three years ago.

Friends told the Kansas City Star the two dated most of that time. Perkins' cousin told Newsday that Belcher's time away from home for practice and games put a strain on their relationship' and the two 'weren't getting along for awhile'.

According to friends, Belcher was upset that Perkins stayed out late Friday night for a concert and drinks with friends.

Police say Perkins returned home at 1 a.m. Just before 8 a.m., Belcher shot her several times.
His mom was visiting from New York, witnessed the murder, and called 911.

Belcher then drove five miles to the Chiefs practice facility, called his coach and general manager into the parking lot -  and turned the gun on himself in front of them.

"We lost two members of our Chief's family. Kasandra was part of our women's organization and had done things in the community," said Chief's Chairman Clark Hunt.

Belcher's death is the latest in a string of NFL suicides.

Researchers from Boston University have linked some of the suicides to previous concussions.
Team officials say Belcher did not have a long concussion history.
