CHARLOTTE, NC - A tour of Metlife Stadium in New York City got the wheels turning for Charlotte Business owner Mike Griffin. Griffin says, "The Panthers and the NFL brand is so important to legitimize Charlotte as a growing city." He says hosting the Super Bowl, would be another feather in our cap. Griffin says, "Charlotte can absorb that, we have a NASCAR event that brings that many people in twice a year, so we made our case that Charlotte should be on the short list for a Super Bowl city."

Business members and city leaders like chamber President Bob Morgan traveled to New York, and pitched the queen city to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Morgan says,  "The stage on that the Super Bowl presents it product, that space needs to be current and competitive, so that's very much a reality of our circumstance." The chamber learned Charlotte may need to update our stadium, and build more hotels to support upwards of 150-thousand people for a super bowl game. Jenna

One thing Charlotte has going for them is the fact that our city hosted the Democratic National Convention successfully, city officials say that's one thing that will help our city be competitive in the future. The visit wasn't only about Super Bowl dreams. Local leaders learned about the success of New York's revitalization efforts in places like Brooklyn, and how we can learn from them. Morgan says,  "It's one of the greatest cities on the planet, and there is a lot to be learned." He points to South End as an example of our revitalization success.
