CHARLOTTE, NC- With the DNC under our belt, Charlotte city leaders are ready to fight for the Super Bowl.

It's one of the biggest sporting events in the world and Charlotte city leaders want to add it to the Queen City's list of bragging rights.

"We think we can do it all, when we actually really are a second tier city," said Don Reid, former Charlotte city councilmam.

Reid says Charlotte leaders have unrealistic expectations, but county commissioner Jennifer Roberts says the city has proven it can handle the big game.

"After hosting the DNC here, I think a lot of people from around the country had a chance to see Charlotte in a new light and say WOW, that's a new south city!" said Roberts.

The NFL has strict guidelines for a host city.  It must have at least 30,000 hotel rooms - the Charlotte region falls short at 15,000.

"The NFL will be smart enough to figure that one out. But personally, I don't know how if we can't even accommodate the democratic party without problems, I don't know how we'll do that," said Reid.

"When you have something like that, there are obviously ways to bring more resources here," said Roberts.

A city's football stadium must hold at least 70,000 people. Bank of America Stadium makes the cut with just under 74,000.

When choosing the next Best Super Bowl city, one of the biggest deciding factors is weather.  In the past three years, the big game has been held in warm climates like Dallas and Miami or in a dome like in Indianapolis.

The NFL requires an average january temp of 50 degrees - ours is 51 degrees.

"We should get the Super Bowl. After all, the way the Panthers are playing, it's the only way we'll come close to a Super Bowl game!" said Reid.

More than a dozen city leaders  will give NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell their Super Bowl game plan during a meeting later this month in New York.

They will also tour the new Metlife Stadium, which will host the super bowl in 20-14.
