Cyclists Use New Technology To Protect ThemselvesCONCORD, N.C.--"Essentially what I have is the Go Pro H.D. Camera," said Concord resident Matt Hartman. He mounted a camera to his bike. As he heads out on multiple rides a week with the Central Carolina Cycling club, it records sound and video. "When you're on a bike and you're riding, your ultimate goal is to stay up right and stay out of trouble," Hartman said. But, when trouble finds him, he's ready. Cyclists armed with cameras like Matt's have captured aggressive drivers and dangerous close calls. Attorney Ann Groninger handles bicycle law cases. "In most cases we find it useful because most people aren't Cyclists also use another type of technology. They use G.P.S. so they can track the routes for their friends, family, and of course, law enforcement. "People originally started to use the technology more for personal training reasons and just for informational purposes and figured out its helpful in other respects," said Groninger. As more and more cyclists hit the road, new technology is giving them a sense of safety and security. "It keeps everybody honest and its good for both sides of the coin," said Hartman. |
