D.N.C. Security Plan Reveals Tightest Security The City Has Ever Seen

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--The D.N.C. Security Plan developed by a team of local, state and federal law enforcement officals will shut down portions of 27 streets in Uptown Charlotte surrounding the Cable Box. Access will also be limited to anyone trying to walk around Uptown beginning on Sunday, September 2 at 9 a.m. and continuing for four days. Sarah Barnard is preparing to be patient. She commutes to Uptown each day for work, "I'm hoping police will have it routed well so we can still get to work in a timely fashion," she said.

Jackalope Jack's on Seventh Street in the Elizabeth neighborhood is not in the impact zone, but, Manager Ben Jackson is waiting to see if traffic will be routed away from his bar and restaurant.
"We'll see. Nobody is really sure what's gonna happen," Jackson said.

Business traveler Laura Santos plans to avoid Charlotte-Douglas International altogether during the D.N.C "You never really know how many people are gonna show up," she said.

There are also restrictions surrounding Bank of America Stadium. In addition to nearby street closures, freeway on-ramps will be closed and a number of vehicle and security checkpoints will be in place. At the Dunhill Hotel, General Manager Craig Spitzer said the rooms are booked and
he hopes the D.N.C.'s captive audience will mean a busy start to September for
his restaurant, the Harvest Moon Grill."I expect our business to be thriving at that time," he said.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Chief Rodney Monroe said drivers trying to get into Uptown should allow an extra 20 to 30 minutes for their commutes.
