CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Disappointed shoppers weren't hard to find at SouthPark Mall Sunday as they sorted through which stores were open. "Didn't realize the effect it had and the disaster of it,
we really didn't know it was that bad," said Sumter, South Carolina
resident Tonya Mack. Mack and her group were in Charlotte for a women's empowerment conference. They wanted to cap off the weekend with a full day of shopping.

Cell phone camera video showed why that retail therapy was on hold while cleanup crews worked around the clock. They are repairing damage following the roof collapse and flood over the Gap Kids and Banana Republic stores on Friday. A couple of inches of water covered the floor and the mall was evacuated. It's not clear if heavy rain is to blame.

Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement officials, mall engineers and fire officials plan to meet this week to investigate the source of the collapse.Mall officials have not yet said when the last building inspection of the mall occurred and were unavailable for comment today.

All while the women from Sumter wait for the mall to fully re-open."We hope that the workers are progressing so we can get some shopping done when we come back," said Sumter, South Carolina resident Stephanie Mathis.

Code Enforcement officials say they are responsible for making sure structures meet building codes when construction permits are taken out. Additional inspections are made regulary for fire code standards.
