Dancing For A CauseCHARLOTTE N.C.- 150 employees at a local hospital are putting aside their stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs and breaking out dance shoes and pink gloves. They're making a video for a cause! "If I didn't have that positive attitude right now I don't know where I'd be." Sheree Dodson knows what it feels like to receive the news- you have breast cancer, "I was diagnosed 4 years ago in November with inflammatory breast cancer. It was an aggressive type of cancer but this past February my cancer had metastasized and went to my liver." 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed at one point in their lives. Just last year 21,000 women were screened right here at CMC-NE. Early detection is your best protection. CMC Northern Division President Phyllis Wingate says on average they screen 350 patients a month with the mobile mammography coach and 1700 patients in total for the Breast Health Center, "Last month we helped about 120 woman who could not afford mammograms." CMC Northeast employees joined the 2012 Pink Glove Dance Contest. They're raising money for programs that will help people like Sheree get screenings, "It was a huge initiative to bring all these individuals together to make a video and to do a dance that helps us raise awareness and educate our community." Breast Health Community Outreach Coordinator Liliana Gismondi-Crook says they're competing with 260 hospitals and need all the votes they can get, "If we can save 1 life through this project we are all winners."
