Decision Postponed on Old Mecklenburg and Johnston Mills Afforable Housing
CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Two weeks could make or break plans to turn the Old Mecklenburg and Johnston Mills into affordable housing.
Community builders bought the historic NoDa properties from the city two years ago for just over $1.2 million.
Monday night, city council postponed a decision on the builder's request for help. TCB says the buildings are in such bad shape it wants $2.4 million from a federal grant to help with renovations.
Without city help, residents worry the property will remain empty. City Council postponed a decision to see if the funding request could be lowered.
