Demolition of Eastland Mall Could Begin This Summer

by WCCB Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC -- The City of Charlotte plans to tear down Eastland mall. On Wednesday, members of the Economic Development Committee voted unanimously to spend $871,520 to surgically demo the mall. Staff told council members that the buildings had no reusable value and that it could save money.

Early plans for some of the building space included potential movie studios. While much of the building will remain in tact, renovations inside of the mall could be underway as early as late summer.

Before any action is taken, all council members would have to approve the demolition contract.
