Disabled Dog Looking for LoveCHARLOTTE, N.C. - Godiva is a six and a half year old Shih Tzu. Today, she is happy and loved. But when rescuers took her from a South Carolina puppy mill, it was a different story. "When we found her, she was so matted that we couldn't tell where her rear legs were, her hind legs," says the Humane Society of Charlotte's Jorge Ortega Godiva was being kept in a crate with a handful of other dogs. Her disability made it difficult for her to compete for food and water. Rescuers got the pup into surgery immediately. Doctors discovered a back injury had rendered Godiva's back legs useless. That surgery was in October. She still hasn't been able to walk. "I just hated to see her in the crate all the time and every time she needed to go out, we had to carry her out," says Ortega. He got busy and built the dog a little custom cart. Godiva is mobile on all types of turf, gets along well with other dogs and kids and she's ready for a very special forever family. Ortega says, "She's gonna need someone with her around the clock, every day."
