Driver Charged with Involuntary Manslaughter in Early Morning CrashCHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged Steven Bennie Driggers, 20, with involuntary manslaughter and death by motor vehicle after a fatal crash that left one dead and injured two others. The crash happened early Saturday morning. Investigators say Driggers was driving on Reedy Creek Road when his Jeep crossed the center line and struck a sedan driven by Reinaldo Montejo Rodriguez. Rodriguez was pronounced dead while being transported to Carolinas Medical Center. Rodriguez's wife and daughter, who were passengers, were treated at Carolinas Medical Center with serious, non life-threatening injuries. Police say speed and alcohol were contributing factors in this crash, which is still under investigation. Driggers bond was set at $30,000. |
