Duke Employee Rescued After Falling into Coal HopperCATAWBA COUNTY, N.C.-- Crews rescued an employee at Duke Energy's Marshall Steam Station Wednesday morning after falling 20 feet into a coal hopper. The accident was caused by a void in a coal pile which allowed the worker and bulldozer to fall into the coal hopper, where he maintained radio contact. The worker was not trapped under any equipment. Emergency crews rescued the worker by ladder around 6:45 a.m. He was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. Duke Energy will be performing a route cause analysis, which is standard procedure for accidents. |
