CHARLOTTE, NC - Michelle Wilson says it sounded like firecrackers going off across the street Friday night.

"I was just like 'what is going on?' - and I saw him laying there," she explains.

Tonight police are still looking for the person who killed 28-year-old Terrance Mingo.

It happened on Old Meadow Road.. off Albermarle Road in East Charlotte.

Just a few houses down from where Mingo lived with his grandmother.

"His whole family, they're very nice people. very nice people, I feel, so bad for his grandma," Wilson says.

The shooting.. quite a surprise for neighbor Darrin Fitzgerald.. who just moved in three days ago.

"Yeah, cause it kinda hits home and it was harder to sleep last night, cause of you're constantly hearing things all the time," Fitzgerald says.

People who live here say it's a tight-knit community.. usually very quiet.

But neighbors also say Mingo got into another fight here about a year ago.. near the same place he was shot.

"I know he's had some troubles before but it seemed like he was on the right track," Mingo says.

Wilson says she walks Mingo's niece and nephews home from school almost every day.

"It's upsetting. It's upsetting especially this close to the house. We have kids and there are kids across the street where the gun was pointed at," Wilson says.

"Yeah, I mean it does shock you when you see something like that, when you hear something like that happening, right around the corner from you," Fitzgerald says.
