CHARLOTTE, NC -- North Carolina's Elections Director is expressing regret over a programming error that led to incorrect results in Tuesday's primaries.  Once the polls closed, the wrong number of precincts reporting results showed up on the state's website.  The Elections Board used a vendor to maintain its website for years, but recently moved the programming into the agency.  Local election officials say the problem will be fixed soon.

"Hopefully, all those kinks will be worked out by November, and we'll be running a good process," said Mecklenburg County Elections Director Michael Dickerson.  "But it didn't affect in any way the way people voted, didn't do anything like that."

The State Elections Director says programmers are working to resolve the issues, and stresses that the vote totals reported are accurate.
