Elementary School Placed on Lock Down After Gun Found in Parent's Car

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools confirmed that David Cox Elementary School was placed on lock down for about 20 minutes Wednesday morning after a gun was found in a parent's car.

Cheryl Lisa Ashbee-Jones, 44, was arrested and charged for having a gun on a school campus. She has a valid concealed carry permit, but it is unlawful to have any weapon on school property.

According to school officials, Ashbee-Jones called police about an unrelated incident. When police arrived, they found the gun in her vehicle.

There were no injuries or threats made by Ashbee-Jones. The lock down was lifted at 10:14 a.m. CMS plans to send a letter to parents about this incident.
