Escaped NC Inmate Captured in Halifax CountyTILLERY, NC -- An inmate is in custody after escaping from prison on Sunday. Halifax County Sheriff's office say they received a tip just before 11 a.m. after a passing motorist stopped and alerted them about a man they had seen running from the woods toward a nearby home. Officers arrived at the home along NC Highway 125 near Scotland Neck and immediately began a search of the property. James Ladd was found crouched down in an open garage attached to the house and taken into custody. The home is about ten miles from the prison farm where Ladd escaped on Sunday. He will face charges for his escape from the prison as well as internal prison disciplinary charges. He is currently back at the Tillery Correctional Center where he was originally serving life sentences for the robbery and murders of two men in Yadkin County in 1980. |
