Families Say Prostitution Is Happening Too Close To Home

GASTONIA- Prostitution happening too close for comfort for Theresa Little.

"If they come up on my yard, I tell them you need to go," said Little.

 

Little watches the transactions happen along Poplar Street in Gastonia - mostly at night, but sometimes in broad daylight.

 
"They'll stop them out here at the corner, pick them up, bring them back 10, 20 or 30 minutes late," said Little.
 
Nine women were arrested in Gastonia for prostitution on Friday. Five of those arrests happened right here along Poplar Street. It's something neighbors say isn't surprising at all. They've had to call the police weekly to report prostitution.

Some of the women arrested this weekend were 31 year-old Andrea Long, 35 year-old Kelly Carter, 39 year-old Melissa Dosset and 49 year-old Barbara Aiken.
 
"They're right back out here as soon as they get out," said Little.
 
Police reports show at least one of the women had drugs on her. Neighbor Courtney Robinson says that's her biggest concern.
 
"It's more drug activity. That's pretty much what they're doing. They're wanting to have sex so they can keep they're drug habit up," said Robinson, a Gastonia resident.
 
Exposing hers and other kids in the neighborhood.
 
"When they're out catching the bus, the first thing the kids say is 'we saw a prostitutes hanging out near the bus stop," said Robinson.

 

 

 

Unsettling and happening far too often for these neighbors who hope police step it up to stop it.
