Families with Sick Children Displaced During DNC

Charlotte - Amanda and Josh Euper welcomed their new baby boy Bradley ten days ago. Amanda Euber says. "We didn't know what to do, we had packed for a day at the hospital." But the day he was born, Bradley needed to be rushed to the Levine Children's Hospital because of a massive tumor.

Josh Euber says, "We called around, and it was $150 a night, and we couldn't afford that night, after night, after night." After finding out all the hotels in Charlotte were either booked or rates had gone up for the DNC, they called the Ronald McDonald House.  Mary Guecia says, "They're being asked to leave the hotels because they are booked, so now we are getting more and more requests to stay here."

Amanda Euper says, "She said there was a waiting list, and we didn't know if we would get in, but he would be here for 3 weeks at least." The Eupers got in, but other families haven't been so lucky. Guecia says, "It's difficult to tell someone who's child is sick, we don't have a place for you to stay tonight."

Now, Places like the Ronald McDonald House and the Hospitality House are asking residents who live near the hospital to offer extra rooms in cases families need a place to stay. Amanda Euper says, "I don't even know if you made a lot of money, if you could stay in a downtown city during a convention, for three weeks with a sick baby."
