Family Of A Murdered Charlotte Man Call For An End To ViolenceCHARLOTTE, NC- Enough is enough! That's the message from neighbors in West Charlotte who marched through the streets Sunday night. The rally and candelight vigil was in honor of 24-year-old Keith Houston who was murdered last Sunday in the middle of Tuckaseegee Road. One week later, dozens marched along that same street rallying to end the violence. Houston's grandmother hopes the message resonates. "Open their eyes and realize that life is too short to go through with trying to hurt each other and kill each other," said Mary Houston. Houston's cousins say it's a harsh reality. "If everyone out here wants to live by the gun, they die by the gun," said Family and friends of Houston say the rally not just about their family member, but it's about all the murders this community has seen. "Letting people know that we're concerned about what's going on and we want it to stop," said Gwendolyn Johnson-Brown, founder of Parkview Community Foundation. So as people prayed and shed tears, their message to end violence also came with a call for justice. "If you know and you're keeping silent because you think you'll be a snitch then let me tell you what snitch means - shield no one who commits homicide," said Judy Williams, co-founder of Mothers of Murded Offspring. "So the person that did this can be taken care of. They need to be off the streets because they put us all in danger,” said Johnson-Brown. Keith Houston's funeral is scheduled for Tuesday. It's begins at noon at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Ashley Road. |
