Family and Friends Remember Mother, Grandmother as Selfless, CaringMONROE, N.C. - Jami Crowell still can't believe her Aunt Jennifer is gone. "I still can't believe it, and it's getting real now," she says. Wednesday night, Crowell paid her respects to 62-year-old Marie Crook and her daughter Jennifer Hunt. The two were killed by a drunk driver the day after Christmas. Crook was driving near the entrance to the Matthews festival shopping center when another car slammed into her SUV. And now, the small town of Monroe is mourning. "The best part of all this," Crowell continues, "is that her mom and her went together." Community members filed into the Davis Funeral home, including family friend Bobby Griffin, who remembers Marie's beautiful voice. "I used to sing with her in a quartet," he says. "She could really sing. Me, I just hit a note every now and then." While Hunt's five and nine-year-old daughters recover from injuries they got during the crash, family and friends want justice for the women, and for their memory to stay alive. "I'm so thankful that I had the opportunity to know her," says Griffin, "and try to sing with her." The family is accepting donations to help pay for the memorial service.
