Charlotte, N.C. -- Before the yellow tape and police cars arrived outside the Myers Park crime scene, Bobby Ferguson found Ben Gurley face down in the grass. "Within 30 seconds two police cars came around the corner and you could tell they were business and then I saw Earnest come Ferguson says he watched as police arrested his Fairfax Drive neighbor. Officers say Earnest Gurley told a 911 dispatcher he shot his son inside the home before Ben Gurley went outside and collapsed. Ferguson had no idea there was trouble between the father and son who lived two doors down. "I just can't imagine so I don't know what went on," he said. Postings on Ben Gurley's Facebook wall suggest the Lake Norman High School grad was struggling to find a job and expecting a baby within the next six months with his girlfriend. This week he had two bizarre status updates. On Monday, "Nothing really matters when you're dead on the floor." On Wednesday,"Goodbye World." It's all too unusual for Bobby Ferguson who was born and raised here."I've never even seen a domestic disturbance on this street. This is a quiet neighborhood," he said. Police have not yet released the transcript of the 911 call. Earnest Gurley will appear before a judge for the first time on Friday afternoon. |
