Charlotte - Mom Adrienne Gray says it was worth the wait. Picking up her daughter Mariah from her first day at Northwest School of the Arts. Gray says, "First day of school, I do think it went off well, they were a little late getting everything together, but I didn't see any problems."

Northwest student Kailey Fields waited 45 minutes for her bus ride home. But she made it with a smile. Fields says, "I thought really good, because I got to meet new teachers and have art classes too."

With more than 120 thousand students riding the bus, and more than 950 different bus routes, CMS says transportation was the one area they could have improved upon. Superintendant Heath Morrison says a few students got on the wrong bus, but that was fixed quickly. Morrison says, "We have a standard operating procedure that reminds kids this is the bus stop, and school we're going to, and it cuts out on students getting on the wrong bus."

Inside the school doors, East Mecklenburg math teacher Thomas Nguyen says aside from some first day jitters, it was smooth sailing. Nguyen says, "A lot of running around, trying to find their way, but everyone got to their rooms by the bell."
