CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Parents spoke out and Charlotte-Mecklenburg's new school superintendent listened. The district is holding off on a year-round plan for First Ward Elementary.

The school board was supposed to vote on launching the program Tuesday night. It was approved two years ago, but parents question whether it still makes sense.

Superintendent Heath Morrison asked to delay Tuesday night's vote, so he can review the plan. Parents in West Charlotte are considering the idea of year-round schools to help their kids do better in school.

The Project Lift Organiztion is proposing the concept for West Charlotte High School and its feeder schools. The idea is to close the achievement gap by cutting long summer vacations.
