Five Hour Energy Cited in 13 Deaths
by Caryn Little

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--A quick shot of energy is costing some people their lives.  Five Hour Energy is the latest energy drink to come under the Food and Drug Administration's scrutiny.

Nationally, 13 people have died and 30 others have suffered life threatening injuries from the drink since 2008.

The Carolinas Poison Center has received 11 calls related to energy drinks this year in Mecklenburg County.  Nearly half of those were children.

There were 15 calls in all last year.  UNC-Charlotte is so concerned for students, that it's hosting a series of workshops to explain the dangers of energy drinks.
