GASTONIA, N.C.-- WCCB is learning new information on a man that was involved in a police standoff.

Gastonia Police Department's Captain Steve Duncan confirmed that Conrad Pogorzelski was taken into custody after a police stand off outside Pogorzelsk's home Wednesday morning.

The suspect currently serves as a member of the Gaston County Board of Elections. The office declined to comment but did say he is a "great guy and it is a sad situation".

Police say Pogorzelski was to undergo a mental evaluation and not been charged yet.

Recently, police have received complaints about Pogorzelski, including a disturbance at a nearby business.

Neighbors and businesses in the Water Tower Plaza were either told to evacuate or to go to the back of their business.
