Homicide Cold Case Unit
Charlotte, NC – The Charlotte Mecklenburg County Police Department has more than 700 unsolved homicides dating back to the 1960s. They're all catalogued in folders and binders a one room. Cold case homicide detectives David Phillips and Steve Furr are the two guys responsible for making sure justice is served, no matter how many years after the crime. Detective Furr says, "Success to us ultimately is to have that case cleared and tell the victim's family that we've been able to come to a successful conclusion in the case.” For Lakeisha Gray and her family, those answers took 6 years. She remembers all too vividly. "My daughter came running in the room, in the house and was like they murdered. they was out there shooting Uncle Ronnie." That was in November of 2004, moments after her brother was gunned down. But today, she has closure and the person who shot her brother is behind bars. Now Gray can laugh and say, “Tell the Detectives, I haven't forgotten their pumpkin pie.” A reward for a job well done.
