Independence Boulevard Weekend Lane Closures

CHARLOTTE, NC -- The N.C. Department of Transportation will be closing lanes intermittently on Independence Boulevard (U.S. 74) in both directions between Eastway Drive and Briar Creek Road in Charlotte beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, weather permitting.
 
Crews with contractor Ferebee Corp. will be milling and resurfacing the roadway over several days, requiring lane closures during the day and at night. Scheduled work includes the following:
Friday, Nov. 9:
Two westbound lanes will be closed, beginning at 8 p.m. The closure will allow crews to mill and pave the road surface. The closure will continue into Saturday evening, Nov. 10.
Saturday, Nov. 10:
Two eastbound lanes will be closed for milling operations beginning at 7 p.m. The lane closures will stay in place until 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11.
Sunday, Nov. 11:
The contractor will continue paving work, and will have all lanes open to traffic prior to the end of the Panthers – Broncos game at Bank of America Stadium. Depending on the amount of work completed, the contractor may resume work in the eastbound lanes at 7 p.m. All lanes will open by 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12.
 
Motorists may avoid delays by using Monroe Road or Central Avenue as alternate routes to uptown Charlotte.
 
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
