CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Students at Quail Hollow Middle School on Smithfield Church Road were evacuated from the building after a lava lamp broke in a science lab.

It happened around 3:45PM Thursday.   Charlotte-Mecklenburg School officials say 11 students were checked out by emergency responders.  One had a minor cut and was treated on the scene.  All of the students have been released to their parents.

CMS says it was a "newer model" lava lamp.  The students were conducting experiments with the lamps.  One was placed on a heat source, which caused it to break.
