Library Branches May Get Budget Axe

The idea of closing branch libraries like this one in Myers Park, is not going over welll with moms like Julie Ellalasingham...  with her five kids ages 3-11... they are here every week.  This branch is also popular with retirees John Humpreys looking to use the internet.  Another mom Latoya Washington says she and her two sons are here regularly and hopes we are not a community that closes libraries.

Closing up to six branch libraries will save two million dollars.  Regional libraries are not at risk, in fact days and hours of operation would increase to offset the loss of the branch libraries.  Budget cuts last summer forced branches to close several days a week.  Residents who use the library now say they hope county leaders will find another way to make up the expected budget deficit.
