Lincoln County Deputy Injured During Call

Lincolnton, NC – A Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy was injured Thursday when he responded to a disturbance call in Iron Station.

Deputy Travis Williams was dispatched around 3:15 p.m. to the disturbance call at 734 Trinity Lane in Iron Station.  Robert Hayes Hunter, 42, of 734 Trinity Lane and another person were involved in an argument over property.

As Deputy Williams was holding one arm trying to place Hunter in custody, he struck the officer in the head several times with his other hand and arm.  The officer called Communications and advised then that he needed assistance.  Deputy Justin Link was responding to the scene and when he arrived Deputy Williams, although injured, was holding the suspect at gunpoint.

Hunter also resisted Deputy Link but officers finally got him under control and in handcuffs.  He was transported to the magistrate’s office where he was charged with felony Assault Inflicting Serious Injury on a Law Enforcement Officer, Injury to Personal Property and two counts of Resist, Delay and Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer


He was placed under a $20,000 secured bond.

Deputy Williams suffered facial lacerations, swelling under the eye and a fractured nose.  Lincoln County EMS transported Williams to CMC-Lincoln where he was treated and released.
