CHARLOTTE, N.C.—On Saturday Feb. 4, 2012 the Knights of Columbus of St. Thomas Aquinas will host the First Annual Charlotte Ultra Run, which will consist of a 50k race and a 10k fun run to benefit local charities.

Both races will kick off at the Countryside Montessori School and will continue along the Charlotte Greenway until the intersection of E. Mallard Creek Rd and N. Tryon St, which is a 3.1 mile stretch. For the 50k race, the first male and first female to cross the finish line prior to the six hour window will be the winners. The race will stop at the end of eight hours. The 10k fun run will consist of one loop on the course (6.2 miles).

“We are excited to bring the first Ultra Run to Charlotte. We have runners from all over the country registered and we look forward to making this an annual event that will create the opportunity to give back to several organizations in the community,” explains Paul Sparrow, Grand Knight- St. Thomas Aquinas Knights of Columbus.

Both events will benefit the charities supported by the Knights of Columbus. These include the Least Among My Brethren (L.A.M.B.) Foundation, which benefits Special Olympic Athletes, Catholic Charities, Holy Angels and the Nevins Center, which helps individuals with developmental disabilities.

If you are looking to learn more about the race, or just mingle with other race participants there will be an informal meet-up on Saturday Jan. 14, at 5 p.m. at Tyber Creek Pub (1933 South Blvd).
