Man Lies About his Age in Chat Room, Charged with RapeROWAN COUNTY, N.C.-- A Concord man is behind bars in Rowan County after deputies say he raped a 14 year old he met in an online chat room. Joseph Adam Layton, 30, of Concord, was arrested Tuesday by the Rowan County Sheriff's Office and charged with four counts of indecent liberties with a child and 4 counts of Statutory Rape of a Person 13, 14 or 15 years old. According to the sheriff's office, Layton claimed to be 18 years old when the two communicated in the chat room. Layton was detained at the Rowan County Detention Center on a $400,000 secured bond.
