Michelle Obama, Diddy & Chris Brown On CIAA Celeb List
CHARLOTTE, NC- Parties, celebrities, and basketball!
The CIAA tournament is one of the most anticipated events of the year and it starts next week! =
According to the Charlotte Regional Visitor's Authority, the tournament brought over $50 million dollars into the city.
"We always love it! It's the weekend of the year that we look forward to," said Craig Sptizer, general manager of the Dunhill Hotlel.
Spitzer says the hotel is booked solid every year for CIAA. Reservations are made and this year is no different.
"It's the social event of the year for them, so on their calendars it's something that they really look forward to and since we get to be their home for that week, it's infectious!" said Spitzer.
For many visitors, the tournament is not just about basketball.
Charlotte Magazine is on super-star watch and says more celebs show up every year.
Dozens of celebrities like Diddy.. T.I., Boyz II Men, R Kelly and Chris Brown are scheduled to be in town. That means party promoters are busy drafting V.I.P. lists and locking down celebrity appearances.
There are hundreds of parties scheduled in and outside of Uptown Charlotte. For the restaurants, it's a good sign.
"Anytime business comes, we're excited," said Chef Jim Noble, with Rooster's.
Noble says the restaurant is stepping it up for the tournament this year.
"We opened here last year just a couple days before it happened so it hit pretty hard," said Noble.
The second time around, Noble says they're buying lots of extra food and stepping up staff to accommodate the crowds.
"We'll hit overtime and people will be working a lot more than normal just to get through the week," said Noble.
"We're in the business of making people happy and when they're having a good time, it's that much easier to do," said Spitzer
