Missing Deer Hunter Is Found Dead After Hunting TripYORK, SC - A missing deer hunter was found dead Wednesday morning after concerned friends and family say he was overdue to return from a hunting trip. According to authorities, 72-year-old Gene Welch was hunting off of Thompson Quarter Road on Tuesday around 7 a.m. When Welch hadn't returned by nightfall, people familiar with Welch contacted the Sheriff's Office at 9 p.m. expressing concern. Deputies from the York County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, SLED Aviation Wing and members of the community searched for Welch throughout Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. Welch was located on Wednesday and pronounced deceased at the scene. There is no word on what caused his death. Investigators are currently investigating his death.
