Mother Accused of Leaving Young Children Home Alone
LANCASTER, S.C.-- A Lancaster woman is in police custody after she allegedly left her two young children home alone for several hours.
Police were called just after 4:30 a.m. Saturday to an apartment complex when a neighbor said a young girl knocked on her door crying.
When police arrived at the child's apartment, they found a toddler asleep in a playpen "wearing only a diaper with no pillow or cover", according to a police report. The officer also saw food smeared on the toddler's face.
The childrens' mother, Myeshia Shree McCain, 27, was charged with two counts of unlawful conduct towards a child. She was arrested after returning home around 6:10 a.m.
The two children are in the custody of McCain's mother.
