CHARLOTTE, NC - Heisman Trophy winner Jim Plunkett holds Stanford QB Andrew Luck in very high regard. So much, he compares the likely number one pick in next year's NFL Draft to Peyton and Eli Manning.

"In my personal opinion, he's the best passing quarterback out there in college today. I don't think there's any doubt about it."

The 21 year old Luck (6'4, 235 pounds) has led a resurgence at Stanford, leading the Cardinal to a top five ranking in the BCS standings.

In an interview with sports radio station WFNZ 610 The Fan, Plunkett said he believes, if the redshirt sophomore decides to leave school early, he could be the first overall pick in next April's NFL Draft.

"He throws extremely well off-balanced, which is very important in the NFL because of the pass rush."

Like NFL stars Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning and New York Giants QB Eli Manning, Luck's father is a former NFL quarterback; West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck.

"(Andrew) Luck reminds me a lot of the Manning boys, Peyton and Eli. The same kind of genes they got from their dad, Archie, he seems to have from his dad."

When asked, if he would build a team around Andrew Luck, Plunkett didn't hesitate, "I don't think there's any doubt about it. The way he carries himself, the way he performs on the football field, he's just got a good feel for what's going on in the game."

Plunkett starred at Stanford, as well, winning the Heisman in 1970. After being selected as the number one overall pick in the 1971 draft, Plunkett played for the Patriots and, later, led the Raiders to two Super Bowl victories (XV and XVIII). He is the only eligible quarterback to start (and win) two Super Bowls without being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
