CHARLOTTE, NC - Nearly 50 people, mostly students, have been forced out of their apartments after a fire early Saturday morning.

Students say they woke up around 2:00 am to see flames soaring into the sky at the Campus Edge Apartments, just off the UNC Charlotte campus. Fortunately, no was hurt.

It took firefighters nearly an hour to get the three-alarm blaze under control. One building has major damage, while two others nearby will also need repairs.
"I woke up at like 2:00 in the morning from banging on the door and people yelling 'fire!' and I walked outside and there was smoke everywhere, and there was like 40 foot flames in the air," says resident Savannah Fletcher.
Firefighters tell us they're looking into fireworks as a possible cause. Students we talked with say there were fireworks going off in the area around the time the flames sparked.
